About Us

Our Mission

Recreation

Club members have access to information about where and how to fish. Regular fishouts are organized between March and October involving lake, river, and ocean beach fishing.

Education

The Club’s education program offers courses, workshops, and clinics on fly casting (single and double-hand), fly tying, and an annual fundamentals course for beginners. We also host seminars on specific methods like tight-line nymphing and beach fishing.

Conservation

Castaways members volunteer with organizations such as the Nile Creek Enhancement Society, Stream Keepers, the French Creek salmon hatchery, and the Mid Vancouver Island Habitat Enhancement Society. We promote ethical angling practices and environmental conservation.

Who we are

The Mid-Island Castaways Fly Fishing Club is a non-profit society formed in 1996 by a group of like minded local anglers. With approximately 100 members, we are the largest and most active fly fishing club in British Columbia.  Our education program is second to none with frequent workshops and seminars on topics including fly casting and fly tying. We participate in local community activities such as Family Day and Beach Day and our social events include informal get togethers and our annual Christmas dinner.  We welcome anyone with an interest in fly fishing regardless of their skill level or experience.

Our History

In September 1996, the club formally adopted its current name and selected Brigadier General Noel Money’s Fly #2 as the club’s logo. Noel Earnest Money (1867-1941) was a historic Vancouver Island fly fisher. Born in Canada and educated in England, he served in the British Army during the Second Boer War and WWI. Upon retirement, he returned to Qualicum Beach, becoming a hotel and golf course owner. The Stamp River was his favorite steel-heading haunt where he fished with a spey rod and classic Atlantic salmon fly patterns.
