Course Description: this course is for anyone interested in learning to fly fish or for anglers who are new to fly fishing on Vancouver Island.
At the end of the course students will:
• Have general knowledge of Vancouver Island fish, where and when to find them
• Be familiar with fly fishing tackle and how to choose equipment
• Be able to tie essential knots for attaching lines and flies
• Be familiar with types of flies and their uses
• Have learned fundamentals of fly casting and drills for practicing on their own
• Have learned about stream ecology, aquatic insects and other fish food
• How to fly fish safely, ethically and legally
A comprehensive course manual is available to download for free online in the members only section
of the club’s website. It is also available as a printed hard copy for $40.00.
Classes will be indoors on the mornings of May 9 and 10 at Little Qualicum Hall, 1210 Centre Rd.,
Qualicum Beach.
The Club provides fly casting equipment for the lessons – no need to bring your own.
Note: Class size is limited to 24 students and seats will be filled on a First-Come First-Served basis.
